לבקשת ריבלין: הסנאט הצרפתי ישקול בחיוב הצבת תערוכת “הכריש והדג” לכבוד גלעד שליט
הכנסת השתתפה היום (ג’) במיזם “חמש דקות למען גלעד שליט”, והפסיקה את דיוניה לאות הזדהות עם החייל השבוי. יו”ר הכנסת, רובי ריבלין, שעבר בין כמה ועדות וביקש ממשתתפיהן להפסיק את הדיונים ולצאת למבואה, אמר כי “שליט הוא בן של כולנו וחייל של כולנו. אנחנו מפסיקים כאיש אחד את עיסוקינו, כמעשה סמלי, כדי להביע הזדהות עם גורלו ולהעלות את הנושא שוב לסדר היום המקומי והעולמי.”לפני הצהריים נועד ריבלין בלשכתו עם סגן יו”ר הסנאט הצרפתי וראש עיריית מרסיי, ז’אן קלוד גאודין (Jean-Claude Gaudin) וחזר על פנייתו ליו”ר הסנאט הצרפתי, ג’רארד לארשה, להציב בסנאט את התערוכה לכבוד גלעד שליט “כשהכריש פגש לראשונה את הדג”, פרי מכחולם של אמנים המבוססת על סיפור שכתב שליט בגיל 11. גאודין הביע נכונות להציב את התערוכה הן בסנאט והן במקום מרכזי בעירו, מרסיי.
ריבלין הזכיר לאורחו, כי שליט הוא גם אזרח צרפתי, והוסיף: “גלעד אינו רק רק סמל ישראלי אלא הפך גם סמל לשאיפה לחירות האדם בעולם החופשי כולו. גלעד לא זכה במשך למעלה מחמש שנים אפילו לביקור אחד של גורם כלשהו. מדינת ישראל כולה עצרה היום את מירוץ החיים כהזדהות עם סבלו”.
גאודין אמר לריבלין, כי בעולם כולו מעריכים את ההתמודדות של ישראל עם סוגית שביו של גלעד, וכאמור הבטיח לשוחח עם יו”ר הסנאט הצרפתי כדי להציב את התערוכה בסנאט.

Dear Mr. President,
As I write to you, I recall with pleasure our meeting in Paris in October 2010, when we had the opportunity to discuss the friendship and cooperation between our parliaments and matters of mutual interest and concern. However, I am now writing to you now on a different matter.
I would like to take the opportunity of the welcome visit to the Knesset by Senator Monique Papon, to write to you with the following proposal regarding an exhibition based on a short but very significant story written in his childhood by Gilad Shalit, the young Israeli soldier who was kidnapped by the Hamas in June 2006 and has been held by them ever since with no contact with any international body. The exhibition was set up by a group of artists from an arts and cultural centre in the town of Nahariya in northern Israel.
The short story was written by Gilad (who, as you are probably aware, is also a French citizen) when he was 11 years old and has now become the focus of this very moving and meaningful exhibition. The story, entitled “When the Shark and the Fish First Met” tells of a chance meeting between a small fish and a young shark who decide they want to be friends against all odds and despite the opposition of their mothers. This symbolic tale of the possibility of peace between longstanding enemies is the focus of the exhibition that includes original illustrations by a number of Israeli illustrators invited to contribute. While the exhibition helps ensure that we do not forget the indescribable suffering of the Shalit family and the unknown fate of Gilad, I believe that this simple and charming but very meaningful story reflects the background not only of Gilad himself, but also the belief and longing for peace by all of Israeli society.
The exhibition has been displayed in a number of locations in Israel, including the Knesset and we would now like to propose that the exhibition be displayed at the Senate in Paris.
We hope and pray that we will see Gilad safe with his family soon, and look forward to your positive reply.
