השר יולי אדלשטיין דורש מעיתון ‘הגארדיאן’ הלונדוני התנצלות על מכתב הסתה הקורא להרג אזרחים ישראלים שפורסם בעיתון.
שר ההסברה והתפוצות, יולי יואל אדלשטיין (ליכוד) פנה לעורך ‘הגארדיאן’ הלונדוני בדרישה לפרסם הודעת התנצלות והבהרה בעיתונו, זאת לאחר שהעיתון, התיר לפרסם מכתב למערכת הטוען כי פעולות הטרור של הפלסטינאים הן מוצדקות ובכך קורא להרג אזרחים ישראלים.
אדלשטיין כתב לעורך, מר איין בלאק, כי הוא תומך נלהב של חופש הביטוי, אולם גם מכתבים למערכת ראוי שיעברו צנזורה של עורך והוסיף כי בכך למעשה מצדיק עיתונו בעקיפין את פעולות הטרור שבוצעו בלונדון.
בנוסף, הורה אדלשטיין למנהל לשכת העיתונות הממשלתית, מר אורן הלמן, לזמן את כתבת ה’גארדיאן’ המוצבת בישראל לשיחת נזיפה ולהביע את מורת רוחו מהמעשה.

Dear Mr. Black,
I was appalled to read a letter in your paper, written by Mr. Ted Honderich of London and published on January 26th, 2011. In his letter, Mr. Honderich advocated that the Palestinian use of terror against the State of Israel and its citizens is morally acceptable and can be defined as both a form of “self-defense” and a legitimate act in a “freedom struggle.” (Please see attached article)
I am amazed that your newspaper, with its large circulation and honest reputation to uphold, would agree to publish this letter which blatantly calls for the murder of innocent civilians.
It is my opinion and demand that your newspaper immediately publish not only a retraction of the letter, but also an apology which emphasizes that your newspaper does not condone terrorism in any form, nor do you consider the use of terrorism a legitimate tool in a struggle for freedom or in self-defense. I also expect you to make clear to your readers that you believe that terrorism is a violent and despicable act, directed mainly toward innocent civilians with the intent to strike fear and anxiety in a society. Certainly this was the goal of those who employed terrorism in the London bombing of July 2005, as it is in all other terrorist attacks throughout the world.
I am aware of and cherish the principles of freedom of speech and freedom of the press, but even these freedoms are subject to the judgment and discretion of the editor, most especially in cases where an author wishes to publish a letter filled with slander and incitement. As such discretion was obviously not utilized in this case, I demand that an apology and clarification regarding this letter be published immediately.
I have brought this issue to the attention of the Director of the Government Press Office, which falls under my authority, and have instructed him to urgently summon the Guardian’s reporter on Middle East Affairs for a conversation regarding this issue.
I await your response.

Terrorism, as in this case, can as exactly be self-defence, a freedom struggle, martyrdom, the conclusion of an argument based on true humanity, etc.”
